  • Of The Two Types of Breast Implant Explantation, Which One Is Right for You?
  • What Can You Expect During a Total Capsulectomy?

  • Aside from an Experienced and Competent Plastic Surgeon and Staff, What Distinguishes Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery?

Since they were first approved in 1976, silicone breast implants, created by Drs. Cronin and Gerow in 1961, have had a long history of controversy. Prior to their inception by the FDA, women who desired breast augmentation had a choice of either wax injections or Avalon sponges – with less than stellar results. Because silicone is the most inert material for human implantation, it was the impetus for the development of silicone breast implants.

Breast implant illness includes a litany of ailments that cannot be explained by medical science. Although there is no definitive test at this time, women with silicone breast implants may experience thyroid-related issues such as extreme weight loss or weight gain. Other women may experience severely dry eyes, mouth, and nails, along with hair loss, and body rashes for no medically defined reason.

A board-certified plastic surgeon for 34 years, Dr. Barr performs a breast implant explantation procedure known as a total capsulectomy on a daily basis, resulting in a remarkable increase in his patients’ quality of life. As Pisani notes, “Ninety-five percent of Palm Beach Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery’s patients report relief from 90 percent of their symptoms. We created this BII E-course to reach more women and let them know they are not alone. There is a solution, and they can get better.”

For women who suspect they might have BII, Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery encourages them to call their office at 561-464-6955 to speak with a patient counselor who will listen with empathy and advise them on possible next steps. They also invite them to join their private Facebook group, Breast Explant Solution Group by Dr. Fredric Barr, to get support and information from other women who share their BII stories and experiences with Breast Implant Explanation
