The Sciton® JOULE™ laser is one of the most advanced lasers in the skincare industry. While the Sciton® JOULE™ is a self-contained system, it has the capabilities of many cosmetic lasers rolled into one. This advanced system saves us money on equipment—savings that we also pass along to our clients—while allowing us to continue offering a wide range of laser therapies.
Cosmetic lasers are some of the most advanced tools available to our plastic surgeons in West Palm Beach, allowing us to perform services like hair removal, blemish removal, scar reduction, acne control, and much more.
To learn more about the procedures we offer with the help of the Sciton® JOULE™ system, contact our office to set up a consultation with Dr. Barr. With his expertise and the professionalism of the other staff at Palm Beach Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, we’ll help you figure out what you need to make your beauty dreams come true.
As an advanced, multi-purpose skincare tool, there are many things to know about the Sciton® JOULE™ system. Its three distinct delivery modes, arm, fiber, and broadband light (BBL), work together to target four different aspects of women’s beauty: skin, health, body, and hair.
Within those categories, the single-platform lasers contained in the Sciton® JOULE™ can tackle all of the following and more:
The JOULE™’s versatility lies in its three types of lasers. One of these lasers is the world’s first fractional resurfacing laser, which can be recalibrated based on different skin types and the type of work required.
The combination of lasers and lights in the Sciton® system is modular, allowing us to purchase and install modules as new technologies and treatments become available. This feature makes it one of the most useful tools in our arsenal among all other aesthetic and surgical treatments.
Why should you choose the Sciton® JOULE™ in West Palm Beach as your cosmetic method of choice? When combined with the expertise and artistry of Dr. Barr, the JOULE™ can create genuinely compelling results. Not only is the laser system effective, but it’s also proven to be safe to use on skin, regardless of sensitivity, skin type, and area of the body.
Additionally, laser treatments are some of the fastest procedures on the market today. Procedure times are brief and comfortable (though they do range in time and number of appointments required based on treatment type), and any discomfort felt by the patient is kept to a minimum. Compared to invasive treatments, laser therapy has almost no downtime or recovery time.
The Sciton® laser is incredibly variable in scope, as well. For overall youthfulness and skin renewal, we offer full or partial skin resurfacing at multiple depth levels. Alternatively, if you just need specific blemishes, scars, or spots treated, the laser can handle those as well.
Our BBL treatments, which we mentioned briefly above, are used for treating and preventing sun damage in patients, as well as acne, unwanted hair, and more. The BBL system is extremely gentle because it evenly targets large areas. In contrast, many traditional lasers target one small area at a time, causing more significant discomfort.
Laser skin and hair treatments are so effective because, throughout the procedure, the laser is used to create micro-abrasions in the skin. If necessary, it can even strip away one or more outer layers of skin to reveal the more youthful layers beneath. This process stimulates your skin and begins the healing process, replacing old, aging cells with new young ones.
However, the same process can also be used for skin tightening instead. This process is called “coagulation,” where the above method is called “ablation.” Coagulation stimulates collagen production in deeper layers of the skin, firming them and restoring a more youthful shape.
For the most noticeable effect, we can also use both coagulation and ablation to stimulate new cell growth and collagen production at the same time.

The answer depends on multiple factors, including the specific combination of procedures, your recovery rates, your age and health status, and your behaviors or habits. More invasive surgeries typically require recovery time ranging between 6 and 12 weeks to 6 months, and surgeries to the same area of your body will also generally require recovery time between procedures.
However, if you are in good health and the combination of procedures in question will be performed on different parts of your body and are not especially invasive, a combination of procedures could potentially be approved together on a case-by-case basis. It is imperative that the combination of procedures does not compromise your healing, and your attention to prescribed pre-operation and recovery habits also plays a significant role. Schedule a consultation for an assessment and guidance regarding the procedures you are considering.
While aging affects us all, there are steps we can take to put forth a more vibrant appearance. We seek to perform subtle adjustments to address imperfections and the wear of time while retaining your natural look. While you should notice an improvement, the glaring changes or distortions in appearance you are concerned about and may have seen from other surgeons’ work do not meet the standard of quality plastic and cosmetic surgery we perform in our office.

For patients with Breast Implant Illness (BII), which can include allergy, auto-immune, and thyroid hormone issues, this has been an emerging topic with significant press coverage in recent years. Although numerous medical professionals have demonstrated varying responses to these women’s concerns, we believe in addressing these women’s experiences and symptoms. In response to this phenomenon, we have also chosen not to perform new breast implant surgeries. We perform En Bloc Capsulectomy on patients with breast implants, which involves the removal of both the saline or silicone implant and the capsule around it.
Removal of the implants and surrounding scar tissue has been shown to improve women’s health concerning these symptoms. While some women choose no further procedure following Breast Explant Surgery, some patients elect to have a Mastopexy procedure that involves reshaping the breast tissue for a pleasant cosmetic breast appearance. We welcome your specific questions regarding these procedures and their anticipated effects for your situation. See our Breast Implant Explantation (En Bloc) page for more detailed information, including before-and-after photo examples.
