What You Need to Know About the Various Types of Injectables

Do you wish for a more youthful appearance? In today’s world, you can find many options for achieving fresher, smoother, and more lively skin. Although plastic surgery is a proven and reliable method, injectables can offer a better appearance without the invasive nature of cosmetic plastic and reconstructive procedures.

Many different types of cosmetic injectables exist, each serving a specific purpose. You probably have many questions if you’re just starting with facial fillers. Are you sure that the changes you want to make to your appearance are possible? If so, what are your options?

While our Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery team can answer many of these questions in-office, we wanted to share some vital information about the various types of injectables available to you. If you have further questions, please contact us to set up a consultation with Dr. Fredric M. Barr, our chief plastic surgeon.

How Can Injectables Help You?

Injectables relax facial wrinkles, smooth folds, and plump up areas where the skin has begun to sag. They are ideal for:

  • Augmenting the chin
  • Smoothing the skin around the nose, lips, and mouth
  • Defining the nose, giving a softer and more symmetrical appearance
  • Defining lips without giving you a fake, “Joker” look
  • Lifting the brows
  • Volumizing cheeks and cheekbones

Whatever you are looking for, we recommend a consultation with Dr. Barr at Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery. Your visit will allow you to let him know what you hope to accomplish so that he can suggest the right fillers and create a plan to help you achieve your vision.

 Learn About the Different Injectables

The injectables we use at Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery procedures include the following.

BOTOX®

BOTOX® has been a tool of plastic surgeons for over 30 years to treat fine lines and wrinkles, frown lines and creases between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. It was the first injectable to receive FDA approval.

In general, the effects of BOTOX® last between three and six months, with the effect becoming noticeable between four and seven days after the injection.

Dysport®

As an injectable, Dysport® limits the muscle movement that causes sagging and wrinkles. This FDA-approved treatment is useful on both the face and body and lasts for about three to six months. Unlike some other injectables, Dysport® spreads broadly after injection. This effect makes it preferable for areas that need more coverage.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a volumizing dermal filler that we commonly use to create symmetry and definition. Radiesse® is also a stimulatory filler, meaning that it stimulates your skin to produce more collagen on its own. We can apply Radiesse® in a quick treatment, and it has a low risk of allergic reaction. Compared with other leading fillers, it requires fewer injections and lasts longer. In some cases, with Radiesse®, patients can go years without returning for another treatment.

Resilient Hyaluronic Acid – RHA®

Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA®) is a special filler that treats both static and dynamic wrinkles. RHA® injectables are unique in that they adapt to facial muscle movements rather than stop them. This results in a more natural-looking outcome while also reducing the number of wrinkles.

Fillers containing RHA® are FDA-approved and can last up to 15 months.

Restylane®

Restylane® consists of a hyaluronic acid filler. The product acts like your body’s naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to correct visibly mild to moderate facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane® can last up to six months with just one treatment, but touch-up injections can extend those results to a year and a half.

Juvéderm® Volbella™ XC

Juvederm® Volbella™ is a popular alternative to plastic surgery. It can help to restore youthfulness in the skin. Volbella XC provides a softer, more natural appearance by adding fullness to lips, filling in scar marks, smoothing out wrinkles, and plumping the nasolabial folds that appear with age.

Injectable Recovery Times for Injectable Procedures

Depending on the treatment and filler you’ve received, you may experience swelling, bruising, or redness in certain areas. These effects are normal, and icing or massaging the area can alleviate side effects. In addition, Dr. Barr recommends staying away from all blood thinners two weeks prior to injections.

Following the treatment, we will suggest products for you to use to ease your recovery, and we will advise you about using your everyday skincare products while your body is healing.
