Over time, the skin on our face losses elasticity and forms wrinkles. Injections of fillers are a quick and easy way to reduce lines around the mouth and also enhance fullness and contour of the lips, cheek, under eye hollows and nasal irregularities. Juviderm, Restylane and Perlane are sugar-based FDA approved injectables with a consistent safety record that does not require allergy testing. The injectable fillers are temporary, with results lasting anywhere from 6 to 12 months.

Juviderm is widely used to smooth wrinkles between the eyes, in the corners of the eyes, on the bridge of the nose and wrinkles around the lips. Juviderm is also used to make the lips fuller and to give the cheek-bones and chin a fuller look. Produced in France, Juviderm comes in a gel form that is injected to compensate for moisture loss in particular areas of the face.

Restylane and Perlane are made by the same company in Sweden, with the same purpose to restore volume to the skin and correct facial wrinkles. Restylane is the world’s best-selling dermal filler and lasts for about six months. Perlane contains larger gel particles and is intended to be injected deeper within the skin.

All three fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar compound that binds to water, thus giving the skin hydration, lubrication and moisture retention. The procedures can be done in office by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Fredric M. Barr, an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery as well as the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, who has been in private practice in West Palm Beach for twenty-five years.
