eMatrix
eMatrix introduces Sublative Rejuvenation, a revolutionary new skin treatment that reduces wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, discolorations, sun damage and textural irregularities while tightening skin all in one sitting. The process requires little to no down time and is clinically proven for all skin types.
The Sublative Rejuvenation treatment was first introduced in Summer of 2009 and has since been featured on national television shows such as The View, The Early Show, Dr. Phil and the Rachael Ray Show for its anti-aging and skin-smoothening results on patients of ALL skin types and colors.
Sublative Rejuvenation using eMatrix is effective for treating skin of color. While previously patients with darker skin tones have had very limited options, eMatrix is able to reduce hard-to-get acne scars on skin of color. Doctors and dermatologists from across the country are praising eMatrix for its safe and effective treatment for patients of darker skin tones in the Hispanic, African-American, East Indian and Asian communities.
Clinical studies have found that patients undergoing Sublative Rejuvenation have minimal discomfort, no permanent side effects and minimal downtime. A full face treatment takes less than 20 minutes. One month following the treatments, physicians found improvement in these areas:
· 83% of the patients showed improvement in skin brightness
· 87% of the patients showed improvement in skin tightness
· 90% of the patients showed improvement in wrinkles
eMatrix differs from other fractional skin resurfacing in that is uses bi-polar radio frequency to penetrate through the skin - sending more energy beneath the surface of the skin to really maximize collagen production - while keeping the top layer of the skin intact. This is an important factor in why it's safe for all skin types.

Laser Resurfacing Intro
Laser resurfacing is a very specific, controlled procedure that can reduce wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks forehead and mouth areas, along with reducing uneven pigmentation and skin blemishes. A highly focused beam of light delivers energy into the skin and gently vaporizes and removes damaged upper layers. Skin Lasers can also smooth fine lines and wrinkles without burning the overlying skin and are effective for lines around the eyes, mouth, and to tighten and improve skin texture, which continues for several months after treatment. Laser resurfacing is also the procedure of choice for tattoo removal.
Laser technology is ever-changing. Dr. Barr constantly is continuing his education in this field and maintains the most effective equipment for the procedures.
Fraxel® Laser Treatment
Laser skin treatment can help achieve beautiful looking skin! Fraxel® laser treatment repairs damaged skin pixel by pixel, spot by spot with minimal downtime by promoting fast and natural healing. Restore the healthy skin of your youth and gain a renewed sense of confidence with this safe, non-invasive procedure.
What is Fraxel® Laser Treatment?
Fraxel® Laser Treatment (FLT) is a "fractional" treatment that produces thousands of deep, tiny columns in your skin, called microthermal treatment zones. FLT is "fractional" in that it intensively treats old epidermal pigment cells without affecting any of the surrounding tissue. This reduces healing time and promotes the skin's natural healing process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells.
How is Fraxel® different from other laser treatments?
Before Fraxel®, there were two types of laser treatments available. Ablative laser treatments (Erbium/CO2), which literally means to vaporize at very high temperatures, are very effective yet have significant side effects and can require a lengthy healing period. The newer available laser treatment (Fraxel®), being non-ablative, has little or no side effects and almost no healing time, but requires numerous treatments over many months and has limited results at best. Fraxel® treatments offer the effectiveness of ablative treatments with the benefits of the gentler, non-ablative lasers.
How Does Fraxel® Work?
FLT is designed to target aging and sun damaged skin by targeting portions of specific damaged tissue. By creating microscopic "wounds" within the targeted areas well beneath the outer most epidermal layer of skin, Fraxel® Laser treatments trigger the body's natural healing process accelerating the production of collagen and new, healthy skin cells.
What are the benefits of Fraxel® Laser Treatments?
Fine lines and wrinkles will fade, and pores will reduce in size. Since FLT has the impact of ablative lasers but the gentler benefits of the non-ablative treatments, healing time is significantly accelerated so there is minimal downtime. Because the Fraxel® Laser penetrates the non-living outer layer of skin leaving it completely untreated, make-up can be worn immediately following the procedure. Some patients are able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the same day of treatment. Others require a little more time, depending upon their skin condition and treatment. Please consult your physician to understand how Fraxel® Laser Treatment will fit into your schedule.
Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and will subside within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade within a few days. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring.
How many treatments will I need? Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending upon your condition and schedule, you and your physician may choose to space treatment sessions even further apart. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and elastin, and viable healthy skin cell growth.
Laser Photo Rejuvenation (IPL)
Safe, affordable, non-surgical solutions to restore your youthful appearance.
How does IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for photo-rejuvenation work? Photo-rejuvenation uses a multi frequency (NON-ablative) laser pulsed on top of the skin to change the molecular structure and the appearance of aging skin below the surface, giving it a tighter and younger look. Patients with facial veins should see immediate results the day of treatment. The veins are “shut down”, which means they will turn from red to gray, then slowly fade away. Sunspots will turn darker in color and they will begin to flake off in 10 to 14 days. Patients with rosacea or “red cheeks” should see results after the first treatment. The skin will start to regain its normal color, however you must complete your series of treatments, or it will return.
IPL will help:
- Remove sunspots (face, chest, neck, hands, etc…)
- Reduce spider veins (Legs etc…)
- Reduce skin redness/rose colored cheeks (rosacea)
- Reduce facial veins (Telangiectasia)
- Reduce active acne breakouts
Does it hurt? Most patients describe the treatment as the “snap” of a rubber band against the skin. Numbing agents are available upon request. Please contact us at least 24 hours before your treatment time if you would like to use a numbing agent. Most patients are able to complete their procedure without any topical or oral pain medication.
What is the recovery time?
Since this is a non-ablative procedure, there is almost no recovery time. This procedure can be done over a lunch hour and the patient can go back to work. Patients should understand that there is the possibility of redness and swelling for up to 48 hours post treatment. When treating brown areas or sunspots patients need to be aware that the spots will get up to three shades darker and may take up to three weeks to fully disappear.
How many treatments do I need?
A minimum of three treatments are normally required to obtain optimal results. Sometimes up to five are required. We will be able to better evaluate how many treatments your will need during your consultation.
Will I see results the first day?
Yes. Although IPL results improve over time, patients experience a tightening of the skin immediately and will see sun damage, veins, and rosacea subsiding immediately.
Are there any side effects?
Depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, some patients may experience light swelling, light scabbing (flaking of damaged cells), blistering, and mild discomfort. All of these side effects will fade over time.
Laser Hair Removal
A safe, affordable and pain free solution to reduce unwanted hair.
How does hair removal work?
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colors of light. The color of light produced by a particular laser is one of the keys to its effect on hair follicles.
The light emitted by the Palomar IPL system is the most effectively absorbed frequency by your hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time, to eliminate or significantly impede the hair growth.
The lasers “chilled tips” protect and cool the upper layers of the skin before, during, and after each pulse while directing the laser energy to the root.
Can all skin colors be treated?
Yes. The combination of skin cooling, Laser frequency, and pulse durations allows for safe and effective treatment of all skin types & colors.
How long does a treatment take?
Depending on the area, the treatment may take as little as 15 minutes.
Should I stop shaving before being treated?
No, you should actually shave up to and the day of tratment. DO NOT pluck, wax or bleach the hair. These methods alter the hair follicle and leave no pigment for the light to be attracted to for effective results.
What happens if I have been in the sun?
The laser works best if you have not been tanning for at least 14 days. You can be treated with a tan but much less aggressively. Temporary burning is more likely to occur.
Are there any side effects?
Depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment and skin type, a small percentage of patients may experience mild blistering or burns. Hyper or hypo pigmentation may occur. This is usually not permanent and should fade over time. Always read your consent forms carefully prior to treatment.
