Occasionally, either reconstructive and/or cosmetic breast surgeries may need revisions. The use of synthetic materials (termed “Acellular Dermal Implants”) has become a very positive tool in breast surgery- both for reconstructive, as well as, cosmetic procedures.
When utilized, usually in conjunction with silicone breast implants, these additional acellular materials may help to recontour and/or reposition the breast and silicone implant, acting much like an “internal bra”. Ongoing clinical studies show promise for their additional potential use in reducing the problematic recurrence of capsular scar contracture.
A variety of such acellular implants exist, and their usage is dependent on the clinical indications that Dr. Barr will thoroughly evaluate and discuss with you in your consultation at the Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery West Palm Beach office.
